Reader’s Question:

What do I have to know before I make any changes on my auto insurance policy. How do I go about doing it? I’m thinking of contacting my auto insurance company in Brandon Florida.

If you purchased your auto insurance policy from a broker, go to your broker’s office. The broker will make the change request in writing and faxes or mails it to the corresponding insurance company. Your broker can also process the change request through the company’s website or can call the insurance company directly and request the changes on your behalf.

If you’re making changes to your policy that will generate additional premium, you may have to leave a premium deposit. Some brokers may charge an endorsement fee which is charged as a fee for the broker’s assistance.

Always make sure you know when the changes will take effect. If you do not receive instant proof of insurance, your changes will most likely not going to be in effect until the endorsement request is processed by the insurance company. That may take up to 30 days depending on your auto insurance carrier.

If you purchased your policy directly with an insurance company in Brandon Florida, you can possibly make changes by phone, by fax, or in person. Most direct companies will process your changes immediately since there is no middle man required between the insured and the auto insurance carrier.

If you purchased your policy online, chances are that you can request your policy changes without having to visit a local office location. Normally you can make your changes online in “real time” which means your changes are processed instantly.
