Where Should I Be Shopping For Car Insurance For The Best Rate?
Reader question:
What happens if my car insurance policy is canceled and nobody else wants to insure me?
Maggie
Good question.
You don’t have to worry. Even when most car insurance companies won’t give you a policy, there is still a chance that some company might. There are companies that work solely with high risk drivers. Before giving up hope, get free auto insurance quotes online and shop around to see what all of the companies available have to offer.
If you still can’t find anyone to insure you under a policy, it might be time to join your state’s assigned risk car insurance pool. This pool randomly assigns you to one of the member companies which is then required to take you on as a customer. The rates for being part of an assigned risk pool are a lot higher than others.

If I Get A Speeding Ticket Will My Car Insurance Rate Go Up?
Reader question:
If I get a speeding ticket, will my car insurance rates go up?
Andy
Usually.
It all depends on who you are and what car insurance company you are with. Typically, a speeding ticket is one of the big factors in the rise of your car insurance rates. It is evidence that you are an irresponsible driver and puts you into a high risk pool of people being insured. One speeding ticket might not be the end of your car insurance history, but it does usually have a big impact, although not nearly as much as getting into a car accident. Car insurance companies want to nip speeders in the bud, though, considering that speeding is more likely to get you in a car accident to begin with. If your rate goes up too much, though, you can get free auto insurance quotes and see what other companies are like.
However, it isn’t necessarily true that you will see an increase in your premium. If you have been a long time customer with your car insurance company, they might want to give it a little bit of thought before giving you reason to leave them be. If you have a good driving record from the past and the speeding ticket is a one time thing that is in no way normal to your driving experience, it is very possible that you will see little to no effect from your speeding ticket on your premium.

What Kind Of Car Insurance Should I Buy? What Do I Need?
Reader question:
Do car insurance companies insure the same types of drivers?
Anne
Nope.
Most drivers fall into a risk pool called standard, and this is what most car insurance companies provide coverage for with no hassles. An average driver is someone who perhaps, over the course of their life, has gotten a few tickets (but not too many) and possibly one no fault accident, someone who has a car that is considered safe and whose qualities, such as age and so on, would put them in a class that is not likely to get into an at fault traffic accident. These people are fairly cheap to insure, and most insurance companies have no problem doing so. To find out how easily you an get insurance, try getting a cheap free auto insurance quote and you’ll see which group you fall in.
Then there are the preferred drivers. These are accepted by all insurance companies, and have no problem to get free auto insurance quotes that are cheap and acceptable. Preferred drivers are people at the top, who have perfect driving record, no accident history, are in demographic groups that are unlikely to get into car accidents and the like. They are extremely cheap to insure, and so these companies usually have lower car insurance premiums.
Then there are those at the end of the scale, who for some reason or another are considered very high risks. It could be because they have a specialty car, or it could be because of a DUI violation or several speeding tickets. Whatever the case, there are special companies that offer car insurance to people who are considered high risk. These companies tend to be pricier.
However, there are some people who are unable to get insured with any of these companies because of just how high risk they are. If this is the case, there are risk pools in every state which assign them to a company for a much higher price than a normal car insurance policy will be.

How To Determine My Car Insurance Rate
Reader question:
What determines how much car insurance rate are?
Rebecca
Let’s see.
You probably know what factors go into your own car insurance premium, but why is it that, with all of your factors being the same, some car insurance companies have drastically different prices? Are they just over charging? This isn’t always true, although it can be. Generally, the main thing that factors into a car insurance companies average premium price is how much it costs them every year to pay for accidents and all the claimed results thereof. Then there are the normal costs that come with operating a car insurance business, such as advertisement and paying the salaries of all of the workers.
Car insurance companies have to plan ahead in what they charge because, due to the nature of the business, some years they make plenty of money and other years they don’t make much at all. The underwriting goes and comes in cycles. So long as they have enough money from previous years, they are able to handle the bad years, even if a few come in a row. Most companies work like this because they like to have more than necessary so that they can make a profit. As well as that, most of the time the state requires that an insurance company have cash set aside to avoid going under financially. All of these factors affect free auto insurance quote rates.

Will My Car Insurance Company Pay If I Get Sued After a Car Accident?
Reader question:
If I have car insurance, then I can’t get sued, right?
Rupert
Wrong.
Unfortunately, the possession of an auto insurance policy does not keep you from getting sued in the event of an accident. There are some states where you cannot be sued, and these are called no fault states. In those states, suing is prohibited for car accidents regardless of who is at fault. Most states, however, are tort law states, and some even have a mixture of no fault and tort law, so depending where you live the answer to this question could be different.
On the bright side, if you do get sued you aren’t exactly just left in the lurch. Having car insurance, you will be provided with the money and resources from your policy to help you defend yourself against the lawsuit, so it is definitely advisable to be insured on your auto for that protection and much, much more. Always get a free auto insurance quote so you can find out which car insurance company offers you the best help for the best price.

Where Can I Find Free Auto Insurance Coverage?
Reader question:
When I get car insurance for my vehicle, who will be covered?
Mark
Great question.
More people than you think. The great thing about most auto insurance policies is that they are surprisingly flexible. In most cases, if you get auto insurance coverage for yourself and your car, you will also be covered for your family members such as a spouse or teenager. However, if you want those people to still be covered while driving another car, then you will have to actually add their name and car to the policy. This can be even cheaper in the long run, because more people and more vehicles on your policy take your rates down–except, admittedly, in the instance of the teenager.
Your car insurance policy will also cover anybody who drives your car with your permission. So if you let a friend or relative take a ride and they get into an accident, then you can still make a claim. However, the deductible and the ramifications of an at fault accident and all of that, rate increases, and so on, will be on you, even if it wasn’t you in the car. They are also covered even if you did not expressly give them your permission. However, if you did not give permission, then you will not be held liable.

Easy And Free Auto Insurance Quote Comparisons
Reader question:
If I go driving and I am not covered by a car insurance policy, what will happen? Can you guys just give me a few insurance quotes so I can compare rates and see which auto insurance carrier is best for me?
Glenda
Great question.
To be honest, it all depends on whether or not you get caught. Many people think they won’t. I know I made the terrible mistake before of driving without car insurance and with an expired registration, and so I definitely did, and it was a world of problems. Police officers can’t tell right out as you’re driving past them if you have car insurance, but since it is against the law, if you do something else, no matter how small, and you get pulled over, you could get written up for failing to maintain your financial stability.
If you are simply pulled over and caught out, then you’ll likely get hit with a ticket fine, and you’ll have to either plead guilty or no contest. You might have your license suspended immediately in some case, although usually you won’t. However, getting caught without insurance usually contributes to points that, if you get enough of them, will lead to the suspension of your license, and it costs thousands of dollars and tons of time to get that reinstated. Why waste that when it’s so easy to get a free auto insurance quote?
If, while uninsured, you get into accident and are the cause of property damage or personal injury to the other party, then you are way out of luck. Not only will you get all of the above, but you will also have to pay on your own any of the repair expenses for the other person, or, if an injury is involved, all of their medical bills.
