Reader’s Question:

Hi, I have a plan of buying a new car here in Manchester, New Hampshire and I wanna know what features in my new car will affect my insurance premiums. Is it true that if you buy a sports car or one which is likely to be stolen more would increase my premiums?

Carlo

Manchester, NH

Several things could actually affect the premiums you will be paying for your car insurance. Your car insurance premium would be slightly higher on that type of vehicle because insurance companies assign some amount of risk to the make and model of the car, but that would not be all. There are a lot of factors more important that the type of vehicle you are driving in determining the rate of the premium. These factors include the age and the gender of the driver, his/her driving history, density of vehicle in the area, overall market for insurance, etc.

Other factors that can affect your car insurance premium are how expensive it is to repair the vehicle and its safety equipment. Car insurance companies need to determine how much your car accessible to thieves is so the design of your car and the facilities are also important deciding factors for your car insurance premiums.

The ‘distance covered by cars’ is also an important factor towards deciding the premium rate because the more distance the car covers, more likely it is gonna get damaged by another car. As much importance as picking up the best car for you, you should also pick up the best car insurance. Get an online rate quote from a great insurance company in Manchester, New Hampshire available on this website and find out how much you could save on your car insurance.

Reader’s Question:

I recently moved to Edison, New Jersey from a foreign country, and I had a good driving record in that country. I am just wondering why are my car insurance rates so high?

George

Edison, NJ

One of the biggest rating factors car insurance providers use to determine your car insurance rate premium is your driving record.

Other factors that are being considered might include where you live, your age and how many miles you drive every year.

Since you do not have a verifiable driving history in the U.S your car insurance premiums in Edison, New Jersey will be higher until you establish a verifiable driving history. Once you operate in the U.S. for a couple of years and establish a safe and good driving record, your car insurance rates should be lowered.

Reader’s Question:

I’m planning to get a new insurance for my car because it seems that I’m paying way too much with my current insurance company. How can I be able to get a lower premium rate for my car insurance here in Pennsylvania?

Marina

Pittsburgh, PA

A lot of factors actually affect your car insurance premium and that includes your age, where you live in, where your car is garaged, your driving record and the make and model of your car. Although it may seem that you could not do much about some of those factors, there are several things that you can do to lower your premiums.

The first thing that you can do to get a lower car insurance premium rate is to increase your insurance deductible. This would be the amount of money that you have agreed to pay out of your own pocket before your insurance coverage kicks in. Then you could also eliminate optional coverage from your car insurance like rental insurance, towing and labor, etc. You may also opt to eliminate comprehensive and collision coverage if you are driving an older car which has a value of less than $1,000 and if you could afford to pay for repairs if necessary. You might want to ask for available discounts for your car insurance as well. Insurance companies could offer discounts for safety or antitheft devices and low-mileage discounts. Best of all, you have to shop around for your car insurance coverage. Car insurance premiums for the same coverage on the same car could vary widely among different insurance companies. I suggest you start you search now for a very low insurance premium from a great insurance company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Look at the top of the page and you could get an online rate quote from this website.

Is There an Engineer Discount For Car Insurance?

Reader’s question:

I recently got my college degree, and while I was attending school I could get a car insurance discount for having good grades Now that I no longer have grades, though, is there another discount for me?

Craig

Good question, Craig.

This is actually a new area in which car insuranc discounts are being offered. Recent studies have shown that many people’s driving patterns reflect their living patterns as well, as relates to their job, their education, their marriage. For a long time getting married has had a positive effect on people’s car insurance premiums, especially those of men’s, but now the other two categories are seeping into the area of car insurance discounts. You’ll see people getting discounts for being teachers or scientists.

And you can now get a car insurance discount for the degree you have as well. Or at least if you get your car insurance policy with 21st Century Insurance, you can. 21st Century offers discounted car insurance rates for people who have degrees in certain fields. These fields include mathematics, engineering, and chemistry, and pretty much any other degrees that would fall into the same department as those. If you graduated with one of these kinds of degrees, then you can get a car insurance discount from one of these companies.

21st Century is a car insurance company that does business in many states like Texas and Arizona, as well as Washington and Nevada. In all of the states that it operates it gives the option of this discount, which is named the engineering and scientist discount. According to the company’s vice president, this discount can get you as such as thirty percent off on your car insurance premium.’

The reason that people with these degrees are seeing good discounts is because, according to studies, scientists tend to be more meticulous people. Because of this, they pay more attention to their driving as well as to their surroundings.

Can I Get a Car Insurance Discount For Buying a New Car?

Reader question:

Can you get new car insurance discounts for certain types of cars?

Jasmine

Sure you can.

If you have a brand new car that is getting a title for the very first time since it is fresh out of the factory, then there are a lot of car insurance companies who will provide you with a car insurance discount in this instance. That’s good news for anybody getting new cars, because the expenses are already huge. Newer cars have higher rates for car insurance premiums, and so this makes it easier to handle the higher threshold of coverage for a new vehicle.

Here are some types of cars that receive discounts for their class of cars.

  • Cars that are economic. You can get a new car insurance discount for an economic car, especially on your collision coverage rate, because the parts are easier and cheaper to come by and the labor is cheaper for these kinds of cars. Another great thing about them is that they are often less expensive for you to maintain, so you win on all sides.
  • Discount for utility vehicles. Several different car insurance companies offer car insurance discounts for certain types of pickup trucks. Call your car insurance company and ask if they do this, and for what kinds.
  • Safety ratings. Cars go through safety crash tests that determine how they will hold up in the case of several different types of accidents, both concerning the car itself and the people inside of it. Cars who perform better get better safety ratings as well as better car insurance rates.

Cheap Woman Driver Car Insurance Rates

A lot of people are aware of the fact that car insurance rates are often cheaper for female drivers. Although popular stereotypes might depict women as bad drivers, statistics win out in the end, especially among car insurance companies. According to research, for a woman cheap car driver insurance is more possible because they get into fewer accidents than do men. This is mostly the case in the more high risk ages, when people are still under the age of twenty five.

Men are more likely than women to be involved in an automobile accident involving a fatality, just as they are also more likely to be ticketed for things such as speeding and drunk driving. However, there is some light at the end of the road for the guys in this group. Later studies show that women are actually getting into more car accidents these days, while men are getting into less. They still don’t get into the same amount, statistically, but the gap is closing. A few years from now it may be the case that the genders will see no difference in their car insurance quotes. At least not for that reason.

However, over the high risk age of twenty five, the effect of gender on car insurance premiums lessens. The reason for this is that, for those over this age, the statistics are pretty much equal, just as they are becoming for those under it. So, while there is a benefit in being female when buying car insurance, it only works for you if your still in your early twenties or below. This can be a great relief for women buying auto insurance policies while having to deal with high risk young group prices, since for females insurance is only 100% more than the average policy for an older person, while for males it is 200%.

How Do I Save Money On My Current Auto Insurance Policy?

Reader question:

How do I save on the car insurance that I already have?

Luke

Great question.

Let me keep this simple and quick. There are so many ways to save on car insurance that you wouldn’t believe, but the easiest ways are the following three.

  1. Jack up your deductible. Getting a low deductible brings higher car insurance premiums, and considering that you will rarely use that deductible, it just doesn’t make sense to be paying so much over time to pay a smaller price one time. Instead, keep out of your car insurance claims office when it comes to fender benders and save it for the serious stuff. Raise your deductible and make sure you have money set aside to pay for it should you ever have to make a claim.
  2. Get rid of what you don’t need. A lot of people end up paying too much on their car insurance premium because they have coverage that just isn’t necessary. You can save a lot of money by going down to just the state minimum on your car insurance and getting rid of things like collision and comprehensive. As a warning, though, only do this if your car isn’t big on value. If you have a car that is worth a lot, stick with the bigger amount of coverage.
  3. Discounts! There is a plethora of discounts out there from everything ranging from your report card to your air bags, and depending on the company, in some cases you could save more than three fourths the amount of your premium. It’s worth looking into if you have the qualities typical of a responsible driver, considering that you could save so much.
  4. Shop around. You could get a much cheaper price than you have right now just by getting a free online auto insurance quote and comparing the quotes from different companies to see who is best in price with the most value.

What Kind Of Car Insurance Should I Buy? What Do I Need?

Reader question:

Do car insurance companies insure the same types of drivers?

Anne

Nope.

Most drivers fall into a risk pool called standard, and this is what most car insurance companies provide coverage for with no hassles. An average driver is someone who perhaps, over the course of their life, has gotten a few tickets (but not too many) and possibly one no fault accident, someone who has a car that is considered safe and whose qualities, such as age and so on, would put them in a class that is not likely to get into an at fault traffic accident. These people are fairly cheap to insure, and most insurance companies have no problem doing so. To find out how easily you an get insurance, try getting a cheap free auto insurance quote and you’ll see which group you fall in.

Then there are the preferred drivers. These are accepted by all insurance companies, and have no problem to get free auto insurance quotes that are cheap and acceptable. Preferred drivers are people at the top, who have perfect driving record, no accident history, are in demographic groups that are unlikely to get into car accidents and the like. They are extremely cheap to insure, and so these companies usually have lower car insurance premiums.

Then there are those at the end of the scale, who for some reason or another are considered very high risks. It could be because they have a specialty car, or it could be because of a DUI violation or several speeding tickets. Whatever the case, there are special companies that offer car insurance to people who are considered high risk. These companies tend to be pricier.

However, there are some people who are unable to get insured with any of these companies because of just how high risk they are. If this is the case, there are risk pools in every state which assign them to a company for a much higher price than a normal car insurance policy will be.

Free and Simple Ways to Lower Your Car Insurance Premiums

How can I EASILY lower my car insurance? It seems that all the auto insurance companies that advertise on TV rarely…if ever tell you how to lower your car insurance rates.

For late model car owners – you might only want to carry collision and comprehensive coverage. What is Collision Coverage you ask? Collision coverage insurance pays to repair your vehicle when and if you are ever involved in an auto accident. It also pays no matter who was at fault.

What is Comprehensive Coverage you ask? Comprehensive insurance pays to repair your car when it’s been damaged by fire, vandalism, theft, or other freak acts of mother nature.

How can you save money on collision and comprehensive coverage? By far the easiest way is to carry the highest deductible that you can afford. The deductible amount is the part of the repair cost that YOU will pay for. Raising your deductible from $250 to $1,000 can save you up to 55% on your insurance premium.

Say your car needs $2500 in body repairs after an auto accident. If you carried a $1000 deductible you will be responsible for $1000 and the insurance company would pay the remainding $1500…..and all other costs that might be un-covered during the repair process.

Doesn’t sound like a good deal to you? The amount of money you will save on your annual insurance premium for having a high deductible will more than off set your $1000 deductible pay out in 2-3 years of time.

Personal injury protection insurance is something you might also want to consider as well. What is Personal injury protection you ask? This pays for medical expenses for you and passengers in your vehicle if you’re ever involved in an car accident. It will also pay medical expenses for you and your immediate family if you are ever injured in someone else’s vehicle or when you’re walking or riding a bicycle….don’t laugh this happens quite often.
