Reader question:

If my car breaks down on its own and I have to rent a car, does my rental reimbursement coverage take care of that?

Laurie

Nope.

Unfortunately, there isn’t relly a type of coverage available that will help you in the sitation of a mechanical breakdown of your car and your need to rent a car while it is getting fixed. You might be able to get lucky with the warranty of your vehicle if it covers the break down. They could possibly provide you with a rental car. And if you choose to rent one on your own, your car insurance policy will usually provide insurance coverage for it.

However, the rental reimbursement coverage for your car insurance policy only works when your car is out of service because of a car accident you were in, or really anything that you would have to file a claim for.
