Pennsylvania Car Insurance

If you are going to be taking a car around in the state of Pennsylvania, then you have to shape up and get insured. While Pennsylvania isn’t as hard as some states are when it comes to car insurance law, being without insurance cannot only get you in trouble with many legal fees, but it can also mean that you have to pay for everything if you get into a car accident in which you are at fault. In Pennsylvania, the law when it comes to car insurance is for financial responsibility, and you are required to have the minimum coverage of

  • $15,000 for injury/death of one person
  • $30,000 for injury/death of more than one person
  • $5,000 for damage to someone else’s property

And what if you don’t? The payment is too high. For driving without car insurance, not only will you have to pay at least a three hundred dollar fine, but you will have your license suspended for a ninety day period and will have to pay fifty dollars if you want to get it out of suspension. Your registration will follow the same route with the same fee, as well. As for your car, while everything is in a state of suspension, it is a definite truth that you can’t drive it, and it might be that they won’t allow anyone else to either.

It isn’t guaranteed that the second you Pennsylvania car insurance lapses that you will have the state on your back. Pennsylvania doesn’t keep a constant update of who has insurance and who does not. However, if you are without insurance, you may be caught in one of PennDOT’s random checks of car insurance status. And then, of course, every time you are pulled over by a cop, your car insurance will be checked. When you get your car inspected and don’t have insurance, they tell PennDOT. And also, if you cancel your own policy, then your old car insurance company has to tell. So, whatever you do, it is still fairly easy to be caught uninsured.
