Clear Car Insurance Policy

One of the problems that a lot of people have with their car insurance coverage is that when it comes time to file a claim, they find out that they weren’t covered for what they thought they were. At first they want to get angry witht he car insurance compan for tricking them, but as soon as they actually hunker down and read their car insurance policy it’s clear as day what they really were covered for, and how they are stuck out now because they are going to have to cover their expenses out of their own wallet.

How do you avoid this? By reading your car insuranc policy from the beginning. Insurance companies are among the many types of businesses that don’t require you to read the terms of your contract with them, nor do they encourage it. It’s like the car salespeople who leave you in the dealership all day, and then have you sign your papers in five minutes so that you can go home, or so they say. This sort of attitude almost always means that you are opening yourself up to disaster by not knowing what you are signing. So even if it takes time, you need to sit there at the desk with your car insurance agent and read every page before you sign it.

However, some people do read their car insurance policy and still don’t get it. Like most official documents, it will have a lot of terms that the regular person might not understand. That’s why it s important to read it right away. While you’re still in the car insurance office, you can ask your agent to help you to understand what the policy is talking about. It might frustrate them that you are taking so much time, but do not leave until you thoroughly get every single word.

Occasionaly, a car insurance company gives you a certain amount of time in which you can look over your policy and decide that you don’t want it. This usually is a time of a week to a month, and usually not longer than that. It’s like the money back guarantee period of anything else, and if you have problems undertsnading during this time, normally the car insurance company will offer customer service representatives to help you understand over the phone.

Document everything in the process. This means all of the papers and receipts that you get at every step of the way with your car insurance company. Also, one of the biggest tricks or mistakes in the business is when your agent makes all sorts of promises about your policy, but they don’t follow through to put them in the policy itself. Personally, I sugest that no one take out a policy or any other sort of contract based on vocal promises if the promises are not in the contract itself. However, if you do end up getting the polciy, you should document everything your agent promises you. If you have everything down, then when it comes time to file a claim and you don’t have the coverage promised, you might be able to get it right then with your documentation.
