Reader’s Question:

Hi, I have a plan of buying a new car here in Manchester, New Hampshire and I wanna know what features in my new car will affect my insurance premiums. Is it true that if you buy a sports car or one which is likely to be stolen more would increase my premiums?

Carlo

Manchester, NH

Several things could actually affect the premiums you will be paying for your car insurance. Your car insurance premium would be slightly higher on that type of vehicle because insurance companies assign some amount of risk to the make and model of the car, but that would not be all. There are a lot of factors more important that the type of vehicle you are driving in determining the rate of the premium. These factors include the age and the gender of the driver, his/her driving history, density of vehicle in the area, overall market for insurance, etc.

Other factors that can affect your car insurance premium are how expensive it is to repair the vehicle and its safety equipment. Car insurance companies need to determine how much your car accessible to thieves is so the design of your car and the facilities are also important deciding factors for your car insurance premiums.

The ‘distance covered by cars’ is also an important factor towards deciding the premium rate because the more distance the car covers, more likely it is gonna get damaged by another car. As much importance as picking up the best car for you, you should also pick up the best car insurance. Get an online rate quote from a great insurance company in Manchester, New Hampshire available on this website and find out how much you could save on your car insurance.

Reader’s Question:

I recently moved to Edison, New Jersey from a foreign country, and I had a good driving record in that country. I am just wondering why are my car insurance rates so high?

George

Edison, NJ

One of the biggest rating factors car insurance providers use to determine your car insurance rate premium is your driving record.

Other factors that are being considered might include where you live, your age and how many miles you drive every year.

Since you do not have a verifiable driving history in the U.S your car insurance premiums in Edison, New Jersey will be higher until you establish a verifiable driving history. Once you operate in the U.S. for a couple of years and establish a safe and good driving record, your car insurance rates should be lowered.

Reader’s Question:

I am a student North Carolina, and I am having the title on a vehicle transferred to me from my father who lives in Texas. I am from Lorain, Ohio. Does it matter where the automobile is registered for insurance purposes?

Ben

Lorain, OH

Since you are a nonresident in North Carolina it does not appear you need to register the vehicle in NC but can do so back in your home state in Lorain Ohio. If you instead wanted to register and title the car in North Carolina, you can verify with the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles to see if this is possible as a full-time student in their state.

As for auto insurance, you will need to insure the car in the state which the vehicle is registered since normally as part of the registration process one is required to show proof of auto insurance. If you title the vehicle in Ohio check to see if an OH insurance company will cover you while you are in North Carolina or if because the vehicle will be kept with you in North Carolina if they say you should insure and register it there instead until you move back to OH after college.

Reader’s Question:

Is the student covered on household car insurance until they are out of college? Or do they have to be listed as a driver on the car insurance policy? We live in Berkeley, CA.

Jenny

Berkeley, CA

If the teen either resides in the household or lists their parent’s house as their permanent address while at college then an insurance provider will usually require the child to stay on the parent’s auto insurance policy.

If the teen stays in the parent’s household after college then the child would need to continue to be listed as a driver on the car insurance policy as well.

Most insurance providers in Berkeley, California will require you to continue to have your licensed teen listed on your car insurance policy as long as they reside in your household, even if they are eighteen or older in age. Your insurance provider will want all licensed drivers residing in a household listed on the car insurance policy.

Young Driver Insurance Discounts in Florida

Reader’s Question:

I am an 18 year old male driver in Delray Beach Florida and I would like to know if I will now get lower auto insurance cost since I am now legally an adult?

Adams

Delray Beach, FL

No, it is doubtful that you being 18 years old will lower your auto insurance rates. Though you are technically an adult you still only have a couple of years of driving experience and therefore still a high risk to an insurance company in Delray Beach Florida. If you are no longer in school then you may lose a good student discount and at 18 your car insurance rates could go up.

Typically car insurance rates for young drivers go down once you turn 25 years of age. Some insurance companies may lower their car insurance rates at an earlier age, such as 21, but normally 25 is the age at which rates lowers since statistically that is when motorists tend to mature and become less of a risk.

You may speak to your car insurance agent about what your insurance carrier’s guidelines are regarding car insurance discounts and also about their rating system as it relates to how many years you have of driving experience and how old you are.

Reader’s Question:

What would happen to me if I got pulled over in Bend Oregon and I did not have car insurance?

Becky

Bend, OR

Failure to provide proof of car insurance to a police officer when requested, is a class B traffic violation in Oregon. The state of Oregon has a mandatory insurance law which requires every motorist to insure their car.

Driving without insurance in Ben Oregon can result in fines (averaging around $300), suspension of your drivers license and in some areas your car can be towed. If the court convicts you of driving without insurance, you will need to file proof of future financial responsibility (SR-22) with the Department of Motor Vehicle for three years or else your driving privileges will stay suspended.

Switching Car Insurance Cambridge Massachusetts MA

Reader’s Question:

I am currently insured here in Cambridge, Massachusetts and I plan to switch insurance companies. How do I go about switching my car insurance company and do I have to have a new provider first before cancelling my old policy?

Ellen

Cambridge, MA

I bet that you regularly review your car insurance coverage to make sure that you’re receiving the best insurance value for your money that’s why you decided to switch car insurance companies. Shopping around is a very good practice because sometimes, the premium rates for identical policies could vary among different companies. The reason for the variation of premiums could be very complicated but it would boil down to the insurance company’s claims experience with policyholders in your coverage group.

In general, all you have to do to cancel your policy is to inform your car insurance company in writing and specify the date you want the policy cancelled. You may be asked by the car insurance company to send back the actual printed policy. Your car insurance company would send you a cancellation request form that you should sign and return to them. I suggest that you examine the form carefully so to make sure that all information with regard to your policy is correct. Before doing all these, you have to make sure that you have a new policy in place before cancelling your old car insurance coverage. And if it happens that you don’t have a new car insurance provider yet, don’t waste time and find a great insurance company in Cambridge, Massachusetts by getting an online rate quote available from this website.

Are You Looking for Cheap No Fault Auto Insurance?

Reader’s Question:

I still have a lot of questions about auto insurance because I will buy a new car that needs to be insured. I live in West Valley City, Utah and if I get into a car accident, will my insurance cover the damage even if I was the one who caused the accident?

Karen

West Valley City, UT

It’s a good thing that the state of Utah uses a No-fault car insurance system. This means that your insurance company would make payments up to a certain limit for your injury claims and you will be indemnified for losses by your insurance company regardless of who is at fault the accident. You (and your passengers) will not only be reimbursed by your insurance company without proof of fault, but you will also be restricted in the right to seek recovery through the civil-justice system for losses caused by other parties.

You have to be aware of the various details of the No-Fault system and the best way to do that is to check with your state insurance regulator. The goal of no-fault insurance is to lower the premium costs by avoiding expensive litigation over the causes of accidents and to provide quick payments for injuries. But critics of the no-fault system argue that it doesn’t punish reckless or negligent drivers sufficiently through jury awards or legal settlements. Another disadvantage is that no-fault system could have a high car insurance premium than other jurisdictions. But you could still be able to get the lowest insurance premium in West Valley City, Utah by shopping around and the best way to do that is to get an online rate quote from this website.

Reader’s Question:

I’m planning to get a new insurance for my car because it seems that I’m paying way too much with my current insurance company. How can I be able to get a lower premium rate for my car insurance here in Pennsylvania?

Marina

Pittsburgh, PA

A lot of factors actually affect your car insurance premium and that includes your age, where you live in, where your car is garaged, your driving record and the make and model of your car. Although it may seem that you could not do much about some of those factors, there are several things that you can do to lower your premiums.

The first thing that you can do to get a lower car insurance premium rate is to increase your insurance deductible. This would be the amount of money that you have agreed to pay out of your own pocket before your insurance coverage kicks in. Then you could also eliminate optional coverage from your car insurance like rental insurance, towing and labor, etc. You may also opt to eliminate comprehensive and collision coverage if you are driving an older car which has a value of less than $1,000 and if you could afford to pay for repairs if necessary. You might want to ask for available discounts for your car insurance as well. Insurance companies could offer discounts for safety or antitheft devices and low-mileage discounts. Best of all, you have to shop around for your car insurance coverage. Car insurance premiums for the same coverage on the same car could vary widely among different insurance companies. I suggest you start you search now for a very low insurance premium from a great insurance company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Look at the top of the page and you could get an online rate quote from this website.
